-Hearing a tone is like feeling a hit on your rod.
-Bottle caps are like snags.
-Finding a coin is like reeling in a largemouth.
-You could get away with a Zebco/Bounty Hunter but a Shakespeare/Minelab is much better

Got any others?
In fresh water - for years I out fished others using an old Zebco

With both hobbies, you're looking for that one "trophy" find. At least for now, with metal detecting, there are no bag limits! :laughing7:

Wife tried MDing once. Said "metal detecting made fishing look exciting..."
You do drink a lot more beer fishing.
Can't eat what you catch MDing, but can't spend what you catch fishing.
You lose targets while MDing and while fishing.
After a long day of MDing and after a long day of fishing you might have nothing to show for it but a smile on your face and peace of mind. And many of us MDers would love to have more nothing to show off at the end of the day.

Do like I do and have someone drop you off then pick you up once they are done in town. Saves on the parking fee and you will probably get out to the park a little more. If it's the other half chances are she will spend more than you find but o well you get your time outside.

One other similarity when either dirt fishing or water fishing is concentrate on structure. Large rocks, drop offs, cuts, ect. Some of my best finds have been right around very large boulders where people sit, climb or lean against, and also on slopes or hillsides where the view is good.
