After suffering through the red tide for 2 weeks in Siesta Key last year, we are going this year to Newport RI.
We were there years ago and I remember the cliff walk and a few small beaches on the bay. Lots of history in the area. Has anyone detected on the island ? Any restrictions? I understand the water is colder than Florida even in June and the back yard of " Marble House " may be off limits. Thanks for any advice, Tek

Used to hunt there for yrs - lot of hunters hit there now - If you can get some permissions on land
you may get some goodies - most the parks been hammered - in summer beaches always hold fresh
drops but lot of regular hunters so timing and luck are a factor

The warmest Newport waters ever get - are usually colder still than yours ever get
I advise you to bring a wet suit or a dive jacket if you are going to hunt in the water
especially if you are a Fla. native

you should not have to worry about red tide in june - but there are a few spots in Newport at the height of the summer heat (usually
July-Aug)- that get red tide also

Wow, thanks for all the info. I'll bring a skin for the water. Love the older coins and that buckle is amazing.
I saw people jumping from the rocks on the cliff walk into the water. Do you think the water around those cliff areas can be hunted safely?
Any good Italian restaurants?

Thanks again Casper

How long are you thinking of being up there?
Remember to drop me a line before you do - very possible we can hook up
Narragansett and Scarborough beaches are not to far away and are big beaches
few sample finds from Narragansett - funny thing is I only go there 1 or 2 times a year
place gets hit daily by retired locals but I have gotten a necklace or 2 almost every trip
there - I always shocked what others have missed there - I think its a lot of luck and timing
right spot at right time

if your going to be there for a few weeks and many travel a little to surrounding areas
This place is supposedly one of the best Italian restaurants in R.I. - but in Providence - menu is unbelievable
https://www.theoldcanteen.com/
3 of my Newport favs
Coddington Brewing Company: Newport County's First Brewpub & Restaurant
make their own beer - real good food (my opinion - best clam chowder)
- nice inside - I know the owner
348redparrot
in the wharf center - great food - nice atmosphere
https://www.blackpearlnewport.com/get-a-quote/
on the wharf -it is split into to two - tavern side and 5 star side - if you want to take the wife for real nice dinner
tavern side great for lunch - they have award winning chowder

Hi there Casper, new to this forum. Happen to stumble on your finds from Narragansett, R.I. I think I found a cousin to one of the rings in the group down here on the Emerald Coast bout 3 weeks ago. The one I dug out of the Gulf, Silver, 5.2g from India. Stone, not sure. Moonstone, fresh water pearl ? Was jet black and is quite pitted. Pretty much identical twin, Lol

Got to admit there B - Bandit. Your ring looks like a clone , has a little more swim time. Small world.
