Lithium Ion isnt all that violent not like Lithium polymer, but yes they are protected from over charging and protected from over discharging...

All "new" detectors probably will. Many of the detector manufacturers are still using old technology on tired old platforms.

Even some of the older ones now have after market Lith...... with SMART chargers. They normally have a 3rd wire which checks EACH cell unlike regular rechargeable batteries. Anything could happen...... but likely wont. But thats also why the USPO now asks about batteries in packages.

Do Not Place in a Fire - the battery will explode - and the detector will be difficult to operate...melted and all!

As you can see from Stavr's really cool Xray, there are 3 wires going to battery.
Positive and negative to detector, third wire to battery management system(BMS).
BMS regulates voltage and amperage going to battery, it prevents overcharge from charger by turning off charging circuit at proper charge level and over discharge by shutting down detector.
