Well, got to go out and hunt Sunday for a while at the beach.
Still trying to get acquainted with my Excalibur II. Bought it used from a hunting buddy and I figured since it was out of warranty I would do some modifications to improve my hunting.
Well first, I wanted to be able to change coils. preferably without just hardwiring each time. So I looked to the ones that have the most knowledge. To my surprise I found a metal detector genius that actually would take the time
to help me with my new project. After helping me be able to interchange coils, he also taught me how to modify for a pinpoint function by pushing a button on my handle. wow! that saves so much time and keeps you from breaking the knob. My hunting got better I could now identify different tones and felt more at easy with my detector. But something just wasn't right I wasn't finding any silver or gold. Could it be because more sand was brought in and covered it all. Well that's one possibility. After speaking with my new dear friend about the Excalibur II. I learned it has a weakness that could make all the difference in the world. That weakness is the stock headphones it has. The Koss headphones are not only hard to wear for long hunts but let so much noise in you cant hear faint signals. So I asked my new friend how do I fix that problem? He then sent me videos and instructions on how to build the best set of headphones possible from his years of hard work without asking one thing in return. What kind of person does that anymore? The kind of person that loves the sport of metal detecting so much he wants to share his knowledge and great fortune with new generations of hunters. I took my newly superboosted headphones out for a test drive. In the short time I was able to hunt because my wife ran out out books to read. I found three rings. two sterling silver and one 925 mexico. The first I almost walked over it. heard just a faint distortion and dug a scoop. it got louder, next scoop louder until it was inside the scoop. same thing with the next two. I believe with the stock headphones I would never have found any of them. Just want to say, Thank You OBN for being a great mentor of the sport of metal detecting. Thanks to all of you that help others, you will be rewarded if not now when you walk to the big gate and knock. I will now try to post some photos of my finds. PS. Sorry for the long speech, just ending my shift at work and wanted to share with you!

Welcome my friend! You did great on all, building your own headphones, installing them,........ then getting out and proving it's possible for all to come together and find treasure! Just knowing you can work on your own machine really adds to the quest of this hobby! :icon_thumleft:
