    So here they come !

Only got a couple hours to hunt. 3Rd time I'm asked " What are you hunting for"? I tell them Treasure, blank look. I try ,coins
Ok they get that. Here comes the every day question. "What's the best thing you ever found"?
My latest answer to that has been " Billy Joe McAlister's belt buckle" Least it gets a laugh , and they move on.

I always use it as an opportunity to get a new permission. I tell them I recover lost jewelry and coins, and I try and find places like older homes, and homesteads to hunt. About 1/3 of the time they say "you should look in my yard my house is old."

I like waiting till they get real close... and I act like I am totally unaware of them approaching...

And right when they get to the point where I feel they are gonna say something...

I briskly walk away like I never saw them.

I want a shirt that says "hypodermic needle cleanup crew".

Somedays it doesn’t bother me but other days when a bunch of people keep asking dumb questions, it gets annoying. What are you looking for Really? I expect that from kids but from a grown up? Come on people, do you think I’m looking for my dog?? The smart people I like,...always ask.. “any good finds today”.? I guess I could be looking for something specific though, like somebody’s keys. “Yeah actually I’m looking for my buddy’s keys to his car, his gf is locked inside”.

I can deal with kids " hay mister watcha doing?". But when some teenager asks me what that machine is and i say a metal detector then asks what does it do ? I gotta contain my self.

Always first tell them that I'm finding mostly junk, like bottle caps and pull tabs. Then I say that last night I found this really large diamond ring...then I woke up.

It depends on my mood. Sometimes I interact with them and take the time to explain our hobby. I've also told people that I work for the city and am searching to recover bottle caps. The funny thing is, most people thank me for my service!!

Just so I am clear... I was just joking folks.

Really... I stay away from others... if they approach I do try and just nonchalantly walk away but start while they are still far away.

Usually this deters them from pursuing me.

If I am "cornered" or if I find myself face to face... I am cordial and polite... quick small talk and try and keep it brief.

This is why I like hunting the beaches in the early A.M.

I like the "alone time"... love the sunrises.... the peace.

    AND...

    The LACK of people.
