We did a clandestine dig on Cayo Costa in 1992. I built a cofferdam out of 55 gallon barrels, sawing them in half and putting 1-1/2 barrels together to make it big enough to climb down. I even made ladder rungs bolted to the side. We were able to get down 12 feet before the barrels started to collapse. Of course they would not allow anything like that on a public beach today.

Sounds like Oak Island, Florida style.

Well well Salvor.. tis been awhile since I have seen a thread from you.

Depth estimate would be around correct if on Florida beaches... Just keep in mind before getting too excited about the whole thing.

The "box shaped scan" could be numerous things... Like one real example I can remember turned out to be a propane tank... WITH propane still in it. heh

    Remember, he did say "non-ferrous".

Another 3-4' below the water line to the top of the item? The following might be feasible.
I'm not sure if it would work to go deep enough but I use plywood as a psuedo-cofferdam when digging deck posts near the water.
We dug 4' to the water table and then another 2' as the posts needed to be 6-7' deep. Multiple layers (reducing the width slightly) that you add as the depth increases. Holes cut in the plywood to make extraction possible by hand or rope. Add screws as needed for stability.

Use a pump to remove water and sand from the hole?
ps. My future great grandson had no role in drawing the images. That's all on me.
