Couldn’t decide if I was going hunting today or not, my bed felt good at 3:30 this morning. Decided I would be mad at myself if I didn’t go so I got up and loaded the truck. Made it to the beach in Mississippi at 5:30 and the tide was still out.
My first signal was a jumpy 29 on the nox, dug the signal and 2 shiny quarters are in the scoop. Made another pass around the hole and found a 3rd quarter. I thought it’s going to be a good day.

Worked my way down the beach for the next 2 hours finding some clad and the usual beach trash. I found a cut that was about 18 inches deep and started working the area. I got a solid 29/30 and thought it was a clad quarter, to my surprise I found my first SLQ. It was in really bad shape but I couldn’t have been more excited. I continued to work the area and found a shotgun shell head stamp that dates 1885-1891.

Still working the same area I got a solid 20 and figured it was a zincon, wrong again. I found my first gold ring, it’s marked 18k. What an exciting day.

Wrong again, after getting feedback here on the forum I took my knife and scraped the ring. Yep gold plated, it was fun while it lasted.

you might want to have ring checked - 18k does not discolor - 10k does in saltwater - very rarely 14k - depends on other metals used in mix with the gold
but congrats on the finds
go back and work that older spot more

they made fakes yrs ago with similar stamps - some they would stamp 24k
or actually say "pure gold" inside - they would super polish them and sell them cheaper than one that was real
just like they do with fakes Rolex's from guys on the street
and person wouldnt know till salesman was long gone out of town and week later they would start to turn

Ive got a few 18ks even from 1700s home sites that turned out to be brass....... yes they faked gold even back then. But you are definitely in a good spot. I cant see the date on that Quarter...... but sometime in the 1920s i think they changed it from raised to a lowered stamp which may help you date the area.

Hey, great hunt even w/o real gold. But ya know the real gold is just around the cut! Keep digging and you will be rewarded...or your money back!

No, when I scraped the gold with my knife it came off. The base metal appears to be brass.
