New water hunter here and I made a rookie mistake today that cost me 3 pieces of silver jewelry. I went fresh water hunting this morning and within the first hour I had 2 silver rings and a small silver bracelet. I was using my land pouch because I needed the ability to carry my pinpointer and small shovel etc. I carry a plastic pill bottle to put my better finds in. The weather turned bad and the waves were picking up, so, I decided to call it a morning. I got to the shore and started peeling off my gear. When I looked inside my pouch, no pill bottle I didn't zip my finds pouch so........my bottle with the jewelry is floating around the lake somewhere.... Needless to say, that will never happen again.....just glad I didn't have any gold in it.

Oops - live and learn...However, if your pill bottle was waterproof and floated, the same waves that drove you off could have washed it up on shore. Perhaps some shoreline hunting is indicated? I used to use old 35mm plastic film canisters with the snap-on lids and they were waterproof, but there may be some variation with pill bottles.

Were they heavy enough to sink your bottle? If not, search the downwind side of the lake to find the bottle again.

They were small items...I drove along the shoreline, didn't see my bottle. I'm going back when it stops raining.

What a gut wrencher! I bet that bottle is floating around and if you search the shoreline, you have a good chance of finding it. It's worth a try anyway.

Good luck.....

If that plastic pill bottle has a prescription label with your name on it, perhaps some other t-netter might find it and return it to you. That would be a fun honorable mention nomination to read, wouldn't it?

This is a semi private park for property owners only, I've never seen anyone else with a detector yet :) The bottle was just a plain ole white plastic bottle....hopefully it sank and I retrieve it :0

Chances are if it floated out of your pouch, it didn't sink.....at least right away. If it isn't totally watertight, eventually it will sink. Bummer......

Hate when that happens!
Was water hunting several yrs ago and noticed a Pointer floating by - it was mine. Luckily, I saw it!

I have my pinpointer tethered now, almost lost it a couple times.
