Welcome to Tnet! What type of detecting are you planning to do? Prospecting? Coin/jewelry? Fresh or salt water? Budget?

Welcome aboard! Lots of great reviews about the Vanquish. You’ll get the best bang for your buck if you opt for the 540. Good luck!

Welcome to the forum from the mountains of northeastern Oregon!

Thank you, I hope I dont have any more trouble signing in here. North eastern Oregon sounds like an area for prospecting. I am in the north west of Ireland.

I am looking at the 440, might be enough to be going on with.

If you pound nails, get a hammer.....if you want to hunt gold nuggets, get a gold nugget machine. What can you stand to spend? Good gold machines can run into some serious dollars. If this is just going to be a weekend hobby and you don't need to go too deep, the Equinox, Deus, Gold Bug, or a number of other less expensive machines can get the bigger, shallower stuff. If you're more serious about it, the Minelab GPX and GPZ machines are the way to go. Something in the middle might be the Gold Monster, SD2300, and Garrett ATX.
