I can tell you are flying high on cloud nine through your postings! Your lil buccaneer seems to love it also. Congratulations again, Bart. I hope you get a chance to find some more pirate treasure soon.

Bart, any thoughts on why there is a 1659 coin on a 1733 wreck coast? Any research of the keys that would indicate a known wreck of that vintage?

I wonderd if some one would pick up on that....old timers swear there was a 1600s wreck close by also. There are quite a few wrecks in the immediate area....my oldest coins in the keys have all come from here. 1621, 1652, and now 1659. Last summer I searched for this 1600s wreck offshore. I ended up finding a beautiful 1800s schooner wreck !! 1800s and still loaded with giant Hogsehead barrels....the barrels are gone but the contents are fused into the shape of the barrels !!Click image for larger version.

The top decks sheared off and slid inshore settling in the shallows. The heavy cargo stuck where she initially grounded. The point of me bringing up this wreck is that....I never saw it until after hurricane irma. What little would remain of a 1600s wreck could very well be hidden here in the shallows. It always starts this way....a handful of mystery coins, and a burning desire to know where they came from. Research in the books has proven that at least one galleon from the 1600s was grounded nearby but was refloated with the help of calusa Indians. Still digging for information on this grounding. This beach has proven to see many sailors, wreckers, pirates, Spaniards, Dutch, and English from very early on. I believe that this beach saw Europeans in the early to mid 1500s !! They don't call the waters offshore galleon ally for nothing !! As the water warms and clears ill be getting out to hunt more wrecks.....2021 has been so good to me so far !!
    Happy hunting !!
