I have pocket knives all over the place these days, nearly all of them having come from a beach or the bottom of a lake. What other useful and/or surprising items do you routinely find while detecting?

I've added spoons to the silverware drawer a little.
Not enough to make up for the mysteriously disappearing forks I've been blamed for though.....

I've found lots of tools too. Mainly at boat launch areas, but, surf fisherman lose them too, along with tons of fishing gear.

I've been around pocket knives since an early age too and under the same circumstances but it never transferred over to when I'm not in the outdoors. But yeah, all of the things you said are what made me realize that there is some practicality to carrying one. These are a bit too much for me, but some of the other designs I looked at were pretty impressive in particular.

years ago my GrandPa rented wood boats & paddles at a lake [ 60 yrs ago ] and found lots of knives lost in the boats. I saw 2 quart jars full of knifes one time in his cabin. I wish I have then now...

Yeah don't put them in your pocket make sure they are away from your skin a metal detector guy on Youtube had one leak on his leg through his bag and he got high and couldn't figure out why he was feeling funny, until he noticed it had leaked through and was on his skin. He ended up with some serious munchies when he got home. LOL
