Has anyone had a ring made from scrap gold and gems?

I had one ring made for me with my initials in diamonds. I turned in five yellow gold 14 Kt. rings, two 14 Kt. white gold rings for the setting and 24 small diamonds. When it was done the place said I owed them extra money for the gold they used to make the ring. I explained and showed my receipt for how many grams I turned it and got back a minus amount of gold. Maybe I was a little to loud as got the ring free with an appraisal and two sets of gold earrings for the wife that was with me.

You just have to be careful of being ripped off. I never did have the diamonds checked to see if they were CZ's after I got the ring back.
