I have not yet found a platinum object, but I know some people here have.( Congrats )
I noticed on the electroconductivity table that platinum is very close to iron
I don't have any platinum to experiment on, so can anyone answer this question:
If I discriminate out iron, will I lose platinum also?
Thanks

I was curious about that after reading the post with the conductivity scale. So, I grabbed my wife's platinum engagement ring. I passed it under the coil of my Silver Umax and got a good signal at a few inches. The discriminator knob was set at FOIL.

It doesn't discriminate out on any of my machines. It hits like a gold signal or pull tab.

As DaChief stated... platinum sounds like gold to me...(a good sharp signal) unless it is a very thin ring, a low discriminate setting will work, if you can hear a nickel you can hear most rings..........rdi

I found platinum in the water with an Excal, sounded like a fat quarter, a big sound, higher pitch than a lead fishing weight, but not as high as a pulltab. I only hope to hear it again someday. It took 3 years for the first one. Discrimination set to 1.

Thanks for the info everybody
I'm so relieved I don't have to accept iron to find platinum :icon_cheers:
