2 Rings, 18 kt Pendant, missed the Chain

the darker ring is 9kt, & engraved inside, 1955, 9 or 10 kt will tarnish somewhat if it's been in for a long time and depending on the composition of metal mixed with the gold. After scooping the pendant, I took mega blind scoops in the same area, hoping to get lucky and hit the chain, judging by the size of the guide, it was probably a good size chain, which my pulse won't pick up, but I just hoped the chain would be in proximity of the pendant, but we had a big storm 3 weeks ago and it moved in a lot of sand. There was a big multi building fire in this area, hence all the pieces of tin or aluminum.

Great finds, beautiful pendant! I can see why you'd want to find the chain that it hung on.

Wow nice charm. I would have done the same of keep digging until exhaustion. I found a couple of nice chains that when the scoop lifted the chain was sticking out the hole of the scoop. My hand would swipe it faster than .....

Thanks again for sharing those nice pictures.

Terrific finds! Do you think that anchor pendant is an old one? It sure has a different look to it. Thanks for showing your finds.

[color=blue][font=comic sans ms][size=14pt]Wow, those are some nice finds. I really like the pendant.

in photo #6 at the top you show a couple of open hoop ear rings. I've found a couple of those myself. I wonder how many of this type have been lost at the beach. They sure ring out good when you go over them but then find out there just junk.

It looks like a great beach to hunt the dry sand and in the water. Wish I was there with you. What kind of detector are you using?

As high as your coil is off the ground, that's how much depth you're losing in the ground. - Mat

Re: 2 Rings, 18 kt Pendant, missed the Chain

    Hi Mat:
ya! there is lots of beach to hunt, but we had a lot of rain this summer, so the beach never really dried out and thats a negative, as there is not much that sinks out of sight in wet sand. I do the beach occasionally when it's too rough to get in the water. I use a Whites Surfmaster 10 years old, I'm going to up grade to their new duel one, next season, as I have heard positive on it from a friend that got one this summer.
I use a Tesoro silver sabre for the few times I do hunt the beach. This is a great lakes beach and unlike ocean beaches, it's not affected by tides and when we get a storm, there is no undertow or back wash, it just moves in and deposits a lot of sand. We do best in the deeper troughs ( the dips between sand bars ). Given the choice, between sand and surf, I'll take the surf everytime, my theory is that 95% or more of the gold is lost in the water and not dry sand. Good hunting & good luck, regards terry
