You are not the first to make a similar claim on these various TN Beale threads, or after the Hart Papers and GOLD IN THE BLUE RIDGE made the Beale story known.

The papers of Thomas J Beale NEVER mention the DOI as the "key", ONLY a letter that contained the "key".
The DOI as "key" is an assumption solely based on the "unknown author" using and providing a copy in the published job print pamphlet, justsayn.

It will be seen by a perusal of Mr. Beale's letter to Mr. Morriss that he promised, under certain contingences, such as failure to see or communicate with him in a given time, to furnishing a key by which the papers would be fully explained. As the failure to do either actually occurred, and the promised explanation has never been received, it may possibly remain in the hands of some relative or friend of Beale's, or some other person engaged in the enterprise with him. Which still begs the dubious question, after already having allegedly stumbled onto one working key, "how did the author know that there was still a missing paper?" Only one possible way that he could have known. It's little tell-tells like this that so many want to avoid addressing and accepting, and for good reason. This is why you want to research the actual source text over and over again first, otherwise folks can easily end up chasing assumptions, just as many authors have, and still do, count on.

The BP was designed to bring forth the missing key. But the thing they failed to realize was the promised explanation was sent in the form of a letter from St. Louis, that had key instructions regarding the box, in this place sealed... the key to the key, the Key was there the whole time.. one has to separate the BP, the letters are all you need...toss the testimony of morriss and ward. Good luck with your ciphers, for the real solve none are needed...

"under pretense of hunting etc, we visited the cave, and found it unfit for our purpose."
The Beale narrative clearly states that Beale passed on the cave, instead:
"I have deposited ...in an excavation or vault, six feet below the surface of the ground..."
From the narrative text, Beale and company did not use a cave at all, but dug a hole six feet in the ground to hide this treasure.

Sure if you say so, lol. Yes, The first cave was compromised, and they so found a better place... an even better Cave that wasnt compromised..They were making it know that a Cave of some type is needed in the first place, so to go from a Cave to the ground hole makes no sense. PS you need to read better and clearer, you change up the words in the BP more than anyone.
