Looking at a map of America, with SOME "united states" - 1812... VIRGINIA was ONLY Virginia & (today's) WEST Virginia; Ohio was a state; Kentucky was a state; Tennessee was a state; Indiana Territory.; Louisiana was a state; Missouri Territory.; Unorganized Territory; Oregon Country; Spanish Possessions; Spanish Texas; U.S. Florida; Spanish Florida. EAST Coast, USA were states; Canada was British Possessions; Lower Canada... WHOO! :tongue3:

Kentucky, Virginia, Massachussets and Pennsylvania were not states in 1812. Or 2015 for that matter. They are commonwealths. ;-)

SO! Western part of Virginia COULD have included West Virginia... BUT! Fincastle, Va.was/is known as the GATEWAY to the West/North-West; Lewis & Clark Expedition started from there; THUS, most likely to be the "source" that RM stated that TJB "was from the WESTERN portion of the state". MAYBE "Jr"...? Thomas Beale, Jr. as TJB...? 1817; Thomas "Jr." Beale was 17.
1819... 19 years old; went to New Orleans, LA to see "daddy"... "Captain" Thomas Beale, Sr. & DRAMA began...
