If you go back about ten years on these Beale Treasure threads you will find that I mentioned two different Robert Morriss back then. One lived in Campbell County and the other lived in Bedford County. They are not the same person. If we can agree on that then what is the discussion about?

I wasn't disputing anyone.

Soon after settling in Bedford county, Mr. Ward built, pretty much at his own

Read that book several times online. I have copies of all pages in my computer that you mentioned above. I have researched every phase of your quoted text. Good find though. I have the genealogy of Seth Ward's Family. I believe him to be the "Old and valued friend" that stayed at Robert Morriss' home for years without having to pay him anything because he owned the Washington Inn or Washington House back when it was called Ward's Tavern and later Bell's Tavern. As for John Ward, he was the man that built a ferry in Lynchburg and Ward's Road is named for him today. I believe him to be a nephew of Seth Ward? Also Seth Ward owned land in Bedford County andat one time there were Seth Ward Sr., Seth Ward Jr., Seth Ward III, Seth Ward IV, Seth Ward V, Seth Ward VI, Seth Ward VII and the last was the one that stayed with Robert Morriss in Lynchburg, Va.

cw0909,

Thanks for the link. I saw the reference "Sketches and recollections of Lynchburg" in the Peter V. book and it was something that I wanted to read in detail.

Thanks again for sharing!!

I would say at this time that the people that believed there was no proof of a Robert Morriss living at the time of the 1817 event with Beale has been put to rest. Overwhelmed by proofs of this person's existence should be the over all consistent evaluation.

Agreed, this is no longer an issue.
