I think this is simply a case of a true believer drawing upon a conclusion without any type of confirmation other then a vague reference to a Thomas Beall, to which we are all aware by now of this fairly common name and the various versions. No "Captain", no "J", and a last name that is spelled different, so it simply has to be him. This is scenario that could easily be played out with an endless list of other common names and their variations. Not really anything to get too excited about or to take too strongly to heart.

    The LONG-BELL EXPEDITION of 1820:
Long-Bell Expedition | Encyclopedia of Oklahoma History and Culture
    THE GLEN-FOWLER EXPEDITION:
Glenn-Fowler Expedition | Encyclopedia of Oklahoma History and Culture
What This thread reveals is this:
Yes there were several expeditions that are documented that are "like" the Beale Party of the BEALE PAPERS dime novel pamphlet, and the key word here is "DOCUMENTED".
There is NO documentation for the Beale expedition as depicted in the job pamphlet, but several of the journals from these REAL expeditions served as source material for the 1885 Beale Papers.

What if the "expedition" was privately funded? Black ops?

There were expeditions who's names have been forgotten. We simply don't know who they were.

The names of families are said to be coded in one of the papers.
