Hard to argue that the original narration isn't the only source or provenance to the tale and that pointing out all those existing dependencies, inaccuracies, and deceptions within that original narration isn't provenance. Not my fault that all of that contrary fact exist as I didn't write that original narration. So if you need to attack me in place of the author that's fine, but it all still comes back to the original source, the author, not me. So when you attack me for pointing these things out, I'm not the one you're actually attacking. But don't sweat it, most realize this.....

What I do "get" is you either have solid documented proof to back up a statement presented as "FACT", or you don't, as with the speculation that this 1823 flood prevented this alleged letter from being delivered.
Please bear in mind that the 1885 Beale Papers narrative story in which a never received letter is referenced, has never been proven to have actually occurred outside of the job print shop pages.

To claim this Beale "key" letter was destroyed in the 1823 flood, one must provide proof that this letter existed.

James Beverly Ward, as "agent" copyrighted and published the Beale Papers job print pamphlet in 1885.
John William Sherman, his cousin, printed the pamphlet, wrote a review and advertised the pamphlet in the LYNCHBURG VIRGINIAN newspaper.
Charles W Button was the owner of the newspaper and Sherman was one of his sub-editors.
The original selling price was 50 cents, but lowered to 10 cents due to lackluster sales.

The Beale Papers were regulated to being an obscure local tale until Pauline Innis's involvement with George Hart and the Hart Papers, writing "Gold In The Blue Ridge" and articles in several magazines about the Beale perilous adventure treasure story.
Others have followed Innis's, and a cottage industry of "additional" Beale stories (Claudine Fulton Ellis) and the ever popular "real story behind the Beale Papers story" books and theories.
After 132 years, no evidence has ever been found or presented that can conclusively establish that Thomas J Beale and his perilous adventure treasure exploits told in the Beale Papers was an actual person or if these narrated events ever occurred outside of the job print dime novel pamphlet.
