Can you make out the letters, I have a book on these & could get a full ID.

Looks like:

HIS
PENNY
(in middle, strange, I only seen halfpenny & farthings)

IN 1669 (= the place name)

Otherside shows a wool rack or something?? With the Owners Name? What letter & spaces do you see?

Front side has IN* DEED around edge * S,in middle says His PENNY II,On Back I see AMBL-I*2omBENOS I think.

£85 in book, makes it pretty rare!

Yep, 85 makes it very good. Is it Yorkshire? Seems a lot are listed quite high. Being a penny it was expected though.

I just found it after my last post. That is a great find, and can't believe there has been more found! I'd say a big tobacco smoker made his way to the Colonies! ...or maybe one that quit and didn't use his pennies!

I'd call that a banner find.

To think I'm sitting here looking through the Spink, never would have thought there would be an American Google hit. You obviously must have just found it by fluke. I've only seen an early token like that found once or twice in the US. (posted I mean)

The more I think about this, the more I believe you could almost find the name of the guy who lost it If he were from Leeds & went to the nearest port & they have records linking him to near where he lost it etc....

Interesting.

It's long to get into, but our detecting group best finds story is three 1800s tokens that are from hours away but somehow made it to one field here. The shop burned and most tokens were lost so they were extr. rare. As a matter of fact there hadn't been a recorded sale for one since the 1950s and off one site we found 3! All are in dug condition and look it, but the one that has been sold so far brought 5k. You really never know what you'll find.
