Fiance just lost her engagement ring in NYC Blizzard. Trying to find a metal det

I did as you said and Googled ring finders and I found the blog of a guy in NYC who works with ring finders, he came this morning.. I spoke to my fiance this morning she said "Hes been here all morning and hes still looking, the snow has been plowed down the street"... She sounded discouraged and has to go catch her plane.

I just got a text message "FOUND!!"

I called her and she was laughing and crying and said "ITS A MIRACLE!"

I don't know if I will ever be able to express my gratitude to you all for your help and support and for telling me about ring finders. Thank you so, so , so very much.

This is the gentleman who found the ring, and to him I owe the biggest debt of thanks for coming out i this crappy weather. He is off to find someone elses ring..

You are one lucky man, that is nothing short of a miracle.. NY is pretty quick to get the snow removed from the streets ASAP, and then dumped into the river. They have also employed huge vats to melt snow and send it down the sewer system.

Yes.. there was nothing about this situation that worked in our favor, but in fact - it seems like the obstacles (3 ft of snow) actually helped. Aside from the obvious issues here there were also

1. people hanging around watching her dig for something that was important enough to make her cry - so you know they had a turn when she left
2. The finder came 2 days after the ring was lost
3. We werent 100% sure that the ring fell off when she fell, it really could have been anywhere
4. There's too many to list...

But one thing for sure. There is NO WAY we would have found this ring if it weren't for this website.

I am an internet marketer, specifically search engine optimization specialist. I get websites found in Google. I have been doing it for 14 years and I NEVER thought to look for something like a ring finder service. Metal detector rentals and sales, how to find a ring, how to search for metal in snow - but it never occured to me to look for a service that finds things , let alone one that is made up of volunteers.

I see potential marketing opportunity here, and I also specialize in media marketing and stories like this just make people feel good. Especially with things being the way they are in the world.. people need to hear stories like this. I plan on getting the word out.

Congrats Ben...I'm glad they were able to help. I know people that are members of Ring Finder and if I had more spare time I would definitely join. I love returning lost items to people especially something this meaningful.

Again congrats and good luck with the upcoming wedding. If you don't get that metal detector soon just register for it during the wedding. The guy deserves something other then a nice china set. Look forward to your future finds being posted on T-Net.

Hi Everyone.. Thought some of you might be interested in this. Sarah and I have been engaged for a while, the wedding planning started getting out of control and the bill was getting bigger and bigger. We put down a deposit on the venue and we had a date scheduled, but it ended up getting postponed - with no new date set. We were going to lose the deposit for the venue, but we convinced them to let us use the deposit money to host a new years eve dinner for 20 of our friends.

I have been feeling like our plan was basically going to just be postponed forever, the excitement and anticipation was over, life is chaotic. I had basically decided that we were more than likely just going to be engaged forever (we have been living together for 6 years). As much as I hate to say it, one of the things that went through my mind when the ring was lost was "well, at least she wont have to explain about the wedding being canceled."

Well, we are a big believer in signs - and lately I have been asking for signs about a lot of things. I believe this is one...

so we have decided to get married on Tuesday.

I have attached a picture of the ring that was lost and a picture of Sarah right after it was found. I hope she doesn't get mad at me posting a picture of her in a robe.

Also, it turns out she most likely lost the ring while making a snow angel (maybe another sign?). When she went out this morning to meet the treasure hunter / ring finder the snow angel was gone, completely removed by the plow. Sarah, her Mother, and her sister put in a total of 12 hours of searching, and moved a 25 sq ft area of 18" snow, one handful at a time to make sure the ring wasn't accidentally scooped and moved.

I asked her where they detector found the ring... 5 ft. away from the edge of their perimeter.

Cheers everyone - I will be back in a couple weeks with a new Metal Detector and a wife..

Ben, you've now learned your first detecting lesson... you never give up!

I too believe sometimes things are meant to be, and that was the case for my finding detecting because it changed my life in many ways, and none for the worse (unless becoming somewhat geek counts). So maybe you are meant to be married, and also detect. It sure will be a great story when people ask what made you start.

I didnt get yelled at for the robe picture. This is so great everyone! Thanks! Also thanks for saying I was a lucky "young man" I am turning 40 next month and although I am not too stressed about the actual age part, I have been feeling a bit down because I lost my job in December. Essentially I outsourced my own job, by working for a company that had an office in the US and an office in India. This experience has really revitalized me (us) quite a bit.

This story has taken on a life of its own and I suspect this website will end up getting some press as a result, so you may have some new visitors coming around and asking questions. If you would prefer that I leave you out of it, please let me know. The last thing I want is anyone to show up at their favorite peaceful spot and find 50 amateurs wandering around with metal detectors digging the place up - "Damn that Ben guy!!"

Anyway, Wisconsin has a 5 day wait on getting married, we are going to get the application tomorrow. I will send some pics..

My next thread should hopefully be asking if I ended up buying the right detector..

Man, what a great and heart-warming story! Congradulations to you both an every account. Welcome to the hobby, your story on how you got into this would be a great one for the treasure hunting related magazines, and a far more personal interest story to tell people many years later how got started metal detecting. One thing is for sure, unlike many men who metal detect, your wife wont be giving you grief over you going out to hunt, she already knows the importance of it!!
