XP Deus - Short Solo Hunt on New Land - GOLD HAMMERED!
XP DEUS ROCKS (Second gold coin in 9 months)
Firstly a little background on this new land. It's owned by the most anti-detectorist in our area, nice guy when you know him but he spent many a night running off Night Hawks from his land. It's only last year that we met up whilst he was rabbiting that he gave us permission. He did so because our reputation follows us & he had heard of our sharing the finds & money. So he's going to be very pleased when we show him this & put some cash his way.
On researching this field it came up a blank. However, this didn't put me off because on inspection it had a lot going for it;
Close to Roman Town
Just off a Roman Road
On the High Ground
Therefore, after the recent oats harvest I was keen to try it & pretty sure I would get a few things. I was hunting solo today & only 40 minutes into the hunt I turn up what I thought at first was a really shinny button. To my shock because its always furthest from your mind it turned into a GOLD HAMMERED!!! Being on my own it seem odd to do my normally celebrations, so I calmly got out my camera & placed the coin down, but by now my chest had nearly exploded with adrenaline
I think most Brit Hunters will tell you, Gold Hammered are the rarist of the Gold Coin finds, thats if you every get any gold coins.
I did a total of 1 hour & 45 minutes but I was very hot & I was dieing to know exactly what I had.
18th C Snake Buckle
Lots of large Brass Objects - makes me think no-ones done it that well
James I Quarter-Laurel 1619-25

Beautiful Jacobean coin there! I found a James II half crown (gun money) on my first ever detecting outing with a buddy in England. Not gold hammered, but a memorable find for sure
