The Best Of The Shark Pit Part 5 & Grand Totals ! 17 pictures!
Ok. it's time for The Best Of The Shark Pit Part 5! This will be a very long thread so hang in there with me or just scroll down to look at the pictures! These pictures are of all my finds from The Shark Pit so far this season. They represent 14 trips there. At the end of this thread I will add up all my finds from this season & then add them to my life time grand totals!
For me The Shark Pit is a dream place to hunt because I just never know what will come up in my scoop next & how old it will be. It turns my detector in to a time machine! I mean, over the past few years I have found a class of '63 ring & a hippie peace sign neckless from the 1960's, bottles & other stuff from the 1930's & 40's, jewelry and a WW1 dog tag from the early 1900's, coins from the 1800's, a spear tip from the days of the Powhatans Indians (1600's & before) and if these are not old enough for you, all the sharks teeth & bone fragments I find there are between 5 & 28 MILLION years old! There also is so much wildlife out there. There's ducks, geese, cranes, big & small fish that jump out of the water or are plucked from the water by the dive bomber seagulls. Also blue crabs that will pinch your toes, horse shoe crabs & oysters that will come up in my scoop sometimes, and snakes, skates & jelly fish that I could do with out! For more on The Shark Pit click here.

Now let's get to the pictures!
The first 3 pictures show the brass rings, chocolate tongs, buttons, beads, lipstick tops, lion head pipe, doll baby arm that I found.

The next picture shows the hatpins, 1909 wish bone pin, mule button, little bird, 2 whistles, cuff links,
hair pins & other misc. things that I found out there.

The next picture shows the 30 buffalo nickels I have found so far this year.

The next picture show the 34 V nickels I have found so far this year.

next it a picture of the 21 tokens, 3 pennies & 2 slugs I found & the cookie coins from the contest we had earlier this summer.

Next is a picture of just some of the 90 cookie coins I found so far this year.

Next is a picture of two pocket watches & parts, a ladies compact, flash light bottom, salt shaker top & other misc. stuff that I found.

The next picture is of 2 &1/2 spoons, clock keys & parts and light fixture.

Next we have a picture of an old pocket knife, 2 tubes, whats left of an battery, 3 old fishing weights & some carbon light sticks.

The next picture is of misc. bullet shells, pins & other stuff.

The next picture shows the 13 bottles I found.

Now scroll down for the rest of this thread! I told you it was going to be a long one!

Thank You rtde3 for the tour of the Shark Pit. I always enjoy reading your posts and even read the History of the Shark Pit. As you said it is a time trip each time you venture out. Great finds and keep them coming. I am waiting for you to pull up the relics from Atlantis next.

Rtde3,
Good Grief! Didn't we teach you anything?! The trick is to write VOLUME 1....that way you have can have VOLUME II, the sequel....and then VOLUME 3, the conclusion.
I mean, where we would we have been if there had been only one Rocky movie? or only one Superman movie? or only one Freddy Kruegger movie? LOL
Seriously, Rtde3, I can't begin to tell you how thrilling it has been to see your finds from the Shark Pit. Keep finding the stuff, 'cause we'll definitely be waiting to view the pics!

First of all Mel congrats on your retirement! I think we could have done without a few of those Rocky movies! But I really am going to write a book one day. There is so much more I could tell about this place. I've never done it before so I will have to figure all that out when the time comes. Mean time there still too much good stuff to find! Maybe in a few years after the legend has grown. Thanks for your reply!

Yes, that is what the cookie coins are under all that crust. Dimes, quarters, halfs & dollars. (and some Pennies)

Are you going to pay my medical bill now? I saw yet another shark pit story and opened it up and my jaw slammed into the floor after bouncing off my keyboard :P
What an array of finds man. Not only do I love the stories and pics, I love the fact that you have managed to make the shark pit such a productive source of treasures for us all to see.
Absolutely terrific finds.

Whatever it is, it is valuable. If nothing else for the lesson learned or simply the experience of having been there.

I will probably have another cookie coin contest soon. I wil put them in my electrolysis tank & we will see what they are then. It would be a job to do all of them.
