I was thinking the same thing--it never, Ever happens.  If leather could've survived, maybe we woulda found the belt too.   8)
UPDATE:  I have the name of the property owner when that house was in existence, and I am pursuing information about who he was, when he enlisted, which battles he saw, etc.  Battlefield finds are in a way much more "impersonal" than these finds are--and I figure that since we have the great gift of knowing his name, and having most of his uniform brass in our possession, we should at least track down who he was--whatever we can find out.  I'm not releasing his name at this point--for the obvious fact that our site is still "open" with potentially more relics to find.
