    Who collects peppersauces?

Peppersauce bottles come in a variety of forms, though they are mostly slender and tapering to the mouth. Here's a pair of "ridgie" peppersauce bottles, BIMAL with smooth bases.

I like 'em, 'Berkshiregold'! Are they both smooth-based?

    Here's another pair that I like . . .

The example on the left is smooth-based; the one on the right is pontil-scarred.

Nice! Any bottle that's not machine-made is Blown In a Mold (BIM).

I cannot tell for sure, but your bottles appear to be BIMAL or Blow In a Mold, Applied Lip. That is, a separate piece of glass was applied to the mouth, then tooled to form the lip. You sometimes have to be able to closely examine the lip finish to determine if the lip has been applied or simply tooled without the application of a separate blob of glass.

The two cathedral peppersauce bottles in my image are BIMAL.

Peppersauces are cool bottles to collect! They are easy to display, there are lots of 'em and lots of shapes, and you can put together a nice group without breaking the bank.

I see you're from Chicago, 'Treasurefiend,' my old hometown. I'm still looking for an inside screw stopper from my Chicago Chapin & Gore whiskey bottle (see the recent thread with image). Can you help?

Those peppersauces are great -- glad you like 'em.

Your avatar, 'rmptr' -- is that an image of a large wooden barrel or is it a glass figural bottle? I have a few figural barrels, and I wondered if you collect them also.

We've dug a couple cool looking pepper sauces, one was a cathedral that was pretty old, not pontiled, with a crude applied lip. The other is a really nice Durkee ribbed peper sauce. Here's a pic of my buddy Chuck holding one he just dug. I got it in the pic, but have since given it to Chuck.

    Re: Who collects peppersauces?

Nice bottle! Did you have to break through the concrete slab to get to it?!!!

The concrete was already cracked and slumping. My "Spudy Buddy" (spud bar) gets me a hole started so I can stick the probe in.

Here another hexagonal pepper-sauce like the one that Chuck is holding in the image above. Great bottle!

    Re: Who collects peppersauces?

I think these are peppersauce or even vinegar bottles, but I don't know for sure.

Both have glass pontil scars. Both have thin glass with simple, flared lips. In fact, though they are not from the same glass batch (different color), they may have been blown in the same mold. The bottle on the right is slumped so much, I can't say it's from the same mold as the bottle on the left. (Glass slumping must have been a problem with this mold shape -- notice evidence of slumping on the bottle on the left, also.)

Both of these bottles are crude with lots of inclusions in the glass. I just don't think that a cosmetics company would use such a bottle, even with the elaborate decorative shape. There is no evidence of a closure other than a cork.

Anyone here have any ideas about these bottles?

Nice bottles. Really like the flared lip. Mckearins has a spiral mold that has a similar look as those. I would put them in the Pepper sauce category.

This little sauce bottle has a window in the ridges for application of a paper label.
