can somebody please help to identify this VOC bottle?

    Hi everyone!

Can someone please help me to tell me something about
    this bottle I recently found?
Put this out in "what is this?" before, but try it in this topic
    also.

I will be interested in any ideas of how old it is, where it
comes from or what it can be worth?

I also hope it's real and not a fake...be glad if you give me
your guess with motivation on that :-)

Even though I don't know nothing about bottles yet, I do know
that I like this one :-)

Thank you so much in advance!
    Pia

Re: can somebody please help to identify this VOC bottle?

Tony in Jamaica... The "VOC" lettering represents the seal/mark of the 17th Century Dutch trading entity: The United East India Trading Company.. in Dutch .. "De Vereenichde Oost -Indig Comp" .... where they traded in the lucrative "Spice Islands"/East Indies and China markets. I met Robert Steniuit at London's Public Record Office in Sept. 1978 while he was doing "highly secret" research on wrecks off the Cape Verde and Madeira Islands.. ( see articles Nat Geo. Aug. 1975 and Oct 1978 ... he was looking for docs on this last wreck ) ..... Looking at your jug, and the condition its in, I would venture to say its a repro... unless you have had it in the fam (documented ) for hundreds of years.. maybe a ceramics expert may be of some more help .. take care ,,..tony

    Hi Tony!

How interesting story you told me. So fun to read...
What in its condition makes you think its a repro?
Why would they put a string over the blue pattern on a fake? I think thats very
strange and I am hoping that the string is new but the bottle under is old - and
maybe damage - so the string is put there to cover it....but maybe thats just
because I'm optimistic..hehe....I also hoped that it was good that its weight
was 0,8 kg, so quite heave...

You seem to know a lot of these things so I am very greatful for your opinions
and your time to write them down.

    All the best
    Pia
