    Got some bottles today

I found these bottles in my cousins basement. His house used to be a school house in the mid 1800s he built an addition on the house and put a block foundation under the whole thing. He said the bottles were in the house when he bought it. I was wondering what they are worth. The flask bottle says Success to the railroad and has a horse and wagon on it. The other bottle that is the same color says COL. Sam Johnson proprietor Richmond. VA. 1852 on one side and on the other side it says A. Lancaster's Indian Vegetable Jaundice Bitters. On the bottom it says Wheaton NJ Edition lll. The blue bottle says Chas? Nichols Jr co prors Low?LL Mass DR. Chandler's Jamaica Ginger Root Bitters. On the bottom it says Wheaton NJ. The other bottle just says Canada on the bottom. Thanks for any help in advance.

They are novelty bottles, not antiques. They are worth less than $5.00 each.

Harry, I know how you feel about these bottles. It took me a while to get an "eye" for these pieces. They have appeal. I think they are worth at least 5 dollars each. As evidenced by similar pieces on ebay, and having been a collector of all types of repro and novelty bottles for many years, 5 dollars is certainly toward the minimum range of these pieces. As with real bottles, rarity and color are key factors in what people will pay for these. I rarely see these in shops for less than five, they average about 8 and I have seen them for 10 and 12.

sscindercoop, since I don't have one like your first pic, I would not feel too bad about offering you 8 for it. I buy any and all I see if they are priced for 5 or less, I feel that's a bargain.

I stand corrected. The market is up.

I am far far far from being any sort of bottle expert that is for sure . . . but I do indeed favor bottles when I see them! And yours may or may not have any "real value" on them but I think they are extremely fetching

Could the first one you listed be considered a "agriculture, commerce and transportation theme flasks"?

Looks like the "COL. Sam Johnson proprietor Richmond. VA. 1852" may be a reproduction:

The blue bottle could be this:

They are some really great bottles & I am really grateful you took some time to share them!
