    First Real Privy Dig

I posted some of the bottles and things I found on the Today's Finds Forum, but thought I would post a few more pics here. Tell me what ya think. Hopefully I am starting off on the right foot as far as Privy digging goes. Is this normal to find so many bottles in one pit Thanks for looking. jgas

My first privy was loaded with bottles, but yours is better! I've done six or seven more and none were as productive. There are some real beauties there!

jgas, excellent work. When you say you are going to find and dig a privy, YOU MEAN IT .
I like the emerald green one in the background. Show a close-up of that one some time if you can.

Hey Halfdime, I used a probe and just came across it. Detected the entire yard first and then started probing around. I felt the bricks and glass kinda give off a crunch or scratch sound about 2 feet down. Then started digging...Thanks for the replies guys. It was fun doing this one...

you have some nice digs!!! research all those bottles..you'll be surprised what some bottles can be worth... if you are going to buy any price guides I suggest you buy books by Digger Odell... if you need a link to his books let me know

That's awesome. Are you done digging the privy or do you have further to dig?

    Re: First Real Privy Dig

Hey guys, first of all the red glass with the etching is initials and a date of 1912. It is or was a small champagne style glass. The stem is broken. Pretty fancy stuff. Secondly, I am done digging this particular one. We went around 6 feet and then nothing. I probed the bottom another 5 to 6 feet and didn't hit anything.
As far as price guides go, I will most likely go with the Digger Odell series. I have read a lot about him and the guides. Sounds good to me. Thanks again for the replies and I will post somemore as soon as I hit another pit. jgas
