    Pirate Bottle Need Help Identifying

I inherited this bottle from my late Grandfather. Not much is known about it, so I need some help. The bottle measures 12 inches tall. All images on the glass are painted. The glass stopper is sealed shut, and there are bubbles in the bottle glass. The bottom numbers read 64 D-8 51 within a circle in the middle and to the right is a circle (almost an oval) with a diamond inlaid within the circle at two points and the other two points lay beyond the circle, and an H (or I, depending on which way you look at it) within the circle and diamond shapes. The bottle also has the logo: FEDERAL LAW FORBIDS SALE OR RE-USE OF THIS BOTTLE, which is part of the glass itself, bubbled outwards and runs around the entire bottle at the top of the painting, just before the bottle curves in towards the neck. I have found bottles with that logo on various websites, but they are all very plain. Nothing like this. It's made for a very nice conversation piece. Let me know what you think, any ideas on value, age, use, and manufacturer would be greatly appreciated.

Your bottle is very nice. Is there any history behind it that you know of? Was it a gift etc? Artists have been hand painting bottles for quite some time and in the early part of the 1900's as well as the 40' and 50's, it was considered vogue to give these bottles as gifts. Did the artist sign their name or initials anywhere on it?? I cannot see what type of top is on the bottle....is it a glass stopper original to the bottle? What ever the worth....its still a nice momento from your grandfather.......

I forgot to add this...."Federal Law Prohibits Sale or Reuse of this Bottle ....If your bottle has these words embossed it was made between 1932 - 1964

These words were required on liquor bottles after prohibition was lifted

There isn't a name or initials listed that I can see. I don't have any history to report about it. I do know that my Grandfather served in the Phillipines, but I know it couldn't have come from there. This bottle has all the makings of a US product. The glass stopper appears to be an original, why do you ask? Thanks for the info on the date range. Now, I just have to narrow it down, and find it's origin. The numbers 64 and 51 on the bottom may hold the date I need. Could this be a Captain Morgan bottle? Good question. Here are some pictures of the stopper

Re: Pirate Bottle Need Help Identifying

Ok all, I found a sight that helped me determine the maker's mark. It turns out that it was most likely made by Owens-Illinois glass company. I sent the glass expert on their website some pictures and told him I need all the help I can get in identifying what type of liquor this bottle carried. If he can help, I'll let you know. Anyone else want to venture guesses on its contents, year it was produced, etc?
