    BALL. OLD/NEW/REPRODUCTION?

    See Photos.

Some on web but had a Pat. date on bottom.
    This one has only "5"

Jar is blue, but cover is clear.
    Wrong cover?
    Cover has bubbles in it.

Seam goes all the way up the side.

    Any ideas? Comments?

    all have a good un.

    Re: BALL. OLD/NEW/REPRODUCTION?

    Nice Jar!!! Looks old.
in Buffalo, NY, William Charles Ball and his brothers (Lucius, Lorenzo, Frank C., Edmund Burke, and George Alexander) were in the business of manufacturing wood-jacketed tin cans for the storage of oil, lard and paints. In 1883, the Ball's changed from tin to glass containers and then, in 1886, to glass fruit jars. They moved their operations to Muncie, Indiana, after a fire at their Buffalo factory. Muncie (where a supply of natural gas had been discovered) was chosen because the city was offering free gas and land to rebuild the factory.

The Balls began acquiring smaller companies, and mass producing and distributing jars across the country. They quickly became the leaders in the industry

For inquiries specifically related to old Ball jars, you may contact Richard Cole, curator of the home canning jar collection at the Minnetrista Cultural Center, 1200 North Minnetrista Pkwy., Muncie, IN 47303-2925, Phone: (765) 282-4848, Ext. 117.

I go a great distance, while some are considering whether they will start today or tomorrow

    Re: BALL. OLD/NEW/REPRODUCTION?

    SWR,

    thanks for the I.D.

Did it come from the web or a book?

    Figured the lid was wrong.

Now a search for a proper lid. Should be
    around somewhere.
    Broken bottle, extra lid.

    have a good un....
