    1800's canning jar cap?

Searching for a privy yesterday at my aunt's house, I had to settle for a refuse pit. Among the finds was this aqua top to a bailing canning jar (I think). After an initial cleaning, I tried fitting it to some of my jars, and it doesn't quite work. It's a tiny bit small, actually. Growing up, we did lots of canning, and I remember a No. 63 lid that was made to fit a slightly smaller rim; this seems to be that size. There are two patent dates on the lid: Jan 5 75 and Apr 25 82. There is also as Registered date of June 5 77. Anyone ever seen one of these, and know more about it? I've decided that I'll dig in ever increasing circles, extracting early/mid-20th century treasures and probing as I go until I find older privies. I've done two already, but they were later models. This foundation dates to the 1830's, so there has to be an early privy or several here. I'll find them!

No idea on a date, but yes, a jar lid. The flip wire would rest between those glass nipples on the top.
