Here is a bottle I found last fall. It's in good shape with no chips or cracks. As you can see it is about 6" tall & 1 1/2" wide. I can only wonder what came in this shot glass looking bottle back in those days. Does anybody know? And what is the best way to clean it up & get the barnacles off it? Help!
Barnacles are easy to remove when they are still alive and wet, but dried out are hard, you can try scraping them off but they will leave a white ring on bottle...
Its a condiment bottle, neck is too narrow for milk or cream...
Thanks CFM!
I guess I should have tried to get the barnacles off when I first pulled it up. But I just put it in a bag with some other bottles I found that day & figured I would get to them later. I was more interested in the coins & token I found that same day & kinda forgot about the bottles. That is untill my wife noticed the SMELL coming from my office! I didnt think about thoses things being alive! Man, stunk up the whole place! I had to stick it out in the garage untill the smell died down!
I believe these are called pickle jars, they carried various food items... I have two exactly like this one. I think they are from about the 1920's...that is the time period of the bottle dump that mine came from.
Hmm, I found a bottle that has alot of barnicles on it! heres a pic of it its pretty cool i know its prolly not worth anything jus kinda cool looking! HH CS oh yea its aa old bottle of Hires!
I might be crazy, but if it's a bottle without any color, writing, or anything that can be ruined, I will fill a bottle with 10 parts water and one part bleach. I find it gets the stubborn stains out pretty well. Maybe it'll kill the barnacles.
