I was out geocaching and came across this bottle. It might have been uncovered when a large number of trees in the area were uprooted by superstorm Sandy. It's thick glass with the only writing being:

KNICKERBOCKER
PURE RYE
WHISKEY

The bottle is covered with stalks of rye grains and over the top of the lettering are bales of rye. It measures about 7" tall and only has a small chip at the mouth of the bottle.

I did some searching but didn't find any pictures or relevant references to Knickerbocker at all. Anyone have any clues to its age or origin?

Many thanks!
David

Hello Mr. Geek,

Welcome to TNet, and thanks for showing us your bottle. It appears to be a pre-Prohibition whiskey. Perhaps Canadian, and made during prohibition.

Hi,

I have a bottle of Knickerbocker Pure Rye Whiskey it's in an unopened tin you use a key on the top of the tin to open it. Put out by Distillers Corporation Limited. Montreal Canada. The story goes that it's a bottle that my great grandfather bought and was found when my family cleaned out his house it could be from the 20's or 30's but thats just a guess. I can't find any information on it. if any one can help or point me in the right direction it would be apreciated." Old Unopened Bottles of Whiskey :: Art of Drink

Distillers Corp is a Seagram /Bronfman company: Business and History - Distillers Corporation Seagrams Limited | Western Libraries

There's some terrible photos of the tin here:

What you posted was the only hit I found when I searched but it didn't have a picture and the info said it "could be from the 20s or 30s but thats just a guess". I also didn't notice anything on the poor quality pictures from the item in the tin that even said Knickerbocker on it.

I will go with that for now and thanks so much for taking the time to reply.
