So me and my daughter are hiking down this old dirt road, and we come across a few small brown bottles.. thought wow these are neat, then we stumbled across an old karo syrup bottle, and an old log cabin syrup bottle, all glass... we went back yesterday with some small digging tools and found several more.. I have no ideal about this stuff, we were actually hunting for arrow heads and this stuff just kind of landed at our feet.. have we found anything good? Also, this stuff is coming out of a dirt wall that stands about 6-7 feet tall in some places... do we dig strait in, or go to the top and dig down?? Any help would be appreciated.

Hello Danielle,

This is a pretty recent dump site. It looks 1960's to me. It may be collectible someday. There may be some ACL sodas or milk bottles from an earlier era beneath.

If you decide to dig, I'd advise against tunneling in. Go from the top down. You might scout the area and see if there is evidence of earlier stuff.

some of the old brown medicine bottles were made around 1925 according to some online research.. do you think the deeper the dirt, the older the bottle?

Mos def...the deeper the better...Hopefully they have been using that same spot for while.

Keep us posted on your finds!

Hey Danielle,

Perhaps you could give us a verbal or pictorial lay of the land, that might allow is to better advise. Yes, deeper is generally the doorway to older, but some old dumping areas have been rearranged via the occasional visit from a D-8 Cat, so sometimes there's no telling.

Where were the older circa 1925 items found? Perhaps starting there and digging some test holes...

Let the dirt fly...
