So this morning I made it back to the river bank and I think there's enough here to dig for years. I was digging a lot of small medicines that aren't embossed but the bottle that takes the cake is a beautiful cathedral pepper sauce bottle. Just curious how old are these bottles it has a very crude applied lip. Also dug an other lighting rod insulator. Thanks for looking - Justin

Man, Justin,

That is a super pepper sauce!

"Both the four (square) and six sided (hexagonal) designs seem to have appeared about the same time (1840s) and both cross-section shapes continued in use to some degree as late as the early 20th century although both configurations of the style were most popular from about 1850 through the 1880s (Deiss 1981; empirical observations)." That cathedral bottle is amazing! Makes me want to brave the freezing temps and go out digging tomorrow.

Thanks everyone. It's really neat that they would make something so ornate that would just be considered garbage when it was empty. It's deffinantly the prettiest bottle I have ever dug. And it's amazing it survived for being sandwiched between two rocks about four feet into the bank.

I'd argue that your Pitkin ink is prettier, but that's still a nice one.
