I just got around to actually looking at our Jan 12 insulator finds close enough to get some id off them. My wife and I walked just about a mile stretch of railroad after a bit of unsuccessful metal detecting on a nearby creek.

Within that mile we found:
3 ceramic insulators stamped Chance
4 green glass Hemingray 42's
1 green glass Hemingray No. 40
1 very dark green Brookfield 8
2 aqua Hemingray 21's
1 bluish colored glass insulator with an embossed star and no lettering or #'s
1 blue/green H.C. CO. with no #
1 Hemingray 43 (14) clear
1 Hemingray 43 (12) clear
1 Hemingray 43 (10) clear
1 Hemingray 42 (23) clear
1 Hemingray 45 (21-42) clear
3 REN black plastic

They are very unique and would be conversation starters in a 3 piece grouped display. Is there a collectors market for them too?

Yes ingram4868. There are actually insulator collector associations, at least one of which is a registered non profit organization listed as a historical and educational organization.

Insulators can go for as little as a couple of bucks for the more common ones, up to thousands for the very rare, depending on how good of shape they are in.

petticoat 1.jpg petticoat 2.jpg Today , Jan 18, we began where we stopped last week along the same tracks. Found twenty-four more keepers (and about as many chipped and broken ones we did not pick up). 23 of the 24 kept were repeats of the ones pictured from last week.

There was one though that was different from those. It is an H.G. CO. (Hemingray) Petticoat with the May 2 1893 patent embossed on it, which actually refers to the patenting of the particular drip points it has on the bottom.

We also found about 12lbs of heavy gauge copper wire on this trip as well. Nice bonus.
