I was at a friends house today and saw a box of coca cola bottles laying on its side in the dirt. I asked if I could have them, perhaps to repurpose. I now have 8 of these bottles, but before I ruin them for some craft, I want to make sure I am not making a big mistake. I have done some research but I am giving myself a headache trying to get them figured out. I have one bottle in particular that is giving me trouble. The bottom is blank, and the side is only market 85 (some sort of mark, looks like a VR in a circle) and then 6. All 8 have different states on them, and one from the Anchor CO. Does anyone have a good site for looking up that all the marks on the bottle mean? For instance I would assume that 86 78 means that the bottle was made in 86, or 78? Sorry for being needy, and not looking deeper, but apparently I can only find info on smaller sizes and these are all 16 fl oz bottles. Thank you for any help.

Cool cokes your right on about the year codes on those bottles. If they were older they would have the bottlers city embossed on the bottom of the bottle.

relic Dude, thank you for taking the time to reply. The others do have the states:

Macon, GA 83/85
Little rock, ARK 87/13
Eugene Oregon 86/23
South Portland, ME 86/78
Columbus, OH 85/03 C - 3
Anchor 83/90
Pittsburgh, PA 86/61

Can you tell me of a place that has information on the 16 fl oz bottles? I can't seem to find anything on them. I don't understand the marking either. Take the Pittsburgh, PA bottle, would 86/61 mean it was made in 1986, or 1961? Or does the numbers mean something else entirely? Thank you again for you help!

Thanks Greeneman215, but I have read all those already, and don't see any about the 16 oz sizes or the maker of ones that have no mark on the bottom. Could it be that it was just a newer version and they quit putting marks? Not so sure.
