Been sick and in bed for a little while now , it has been raining hard for a few days and the thought of what could be washed out was haunting me. This morning I got my butt out of bed and took a drive to my Favorite "Creek" and in about 40 mins found these 4 bottles and the porcelain jar lid liner, The 1/2oz G.R.Lewis was on top of a rock under the water fully exposed 8-) its supposed to rain hard again this afternoon ,pretty sure I'm gonna be feeling good tomorrow morning as well !!

Glad to hear you are feeling better Charlie. The creek was kind to you today and maybe you'll find some more tomorrow. Maybe this gentleman wad headed into the G R Lewis shop for some trading. The sign in the far right of photograph reads G R Lewis.

well you got some real cool bottle finds there! Cripple Creek is a former gold mining camp as you probably know. I've been out there to Pike's peak and it sure is a beautiful place to vacation! Hope you're feeling better soon!

Bass ,Thanks for the photo. Here is one from my collection of many. This one is circa 1904 it was taken during the labor war between the mine owners and the union workers. It shows the Colorado Militia & their Gatling gun on Bennett Ave in front of G.R.Lewis's shop. I would give anything to know where his signs are also the mortar & pestel on the post. When we voted in gambling ,his old house sold and a wooden box of his bottles was found in the attic. In her Book Cripple Creek Days , the author describes her memories as a child going into G.R.s store and he would give her samples of Pozzonis face powder. This store was open from 1900 to 1915.

Awesome piece of history Charlie. I wondered if the store was destroyed in the big fire and your post answers my question. Those signs would be worth quite a bit if they have survived. Thanks for the follow-up post and history lesson! -Bass

Carl, It was good to get out each day and walk for awhile and of course find some glass , this area has been real good to me through the years, I have found quite a few local bottles in the creek or on the bank sometimes 10 -20 feet away from the water line. In the last 3 days It has been real good to me. waiting for the next rain storm that undercuts the bank. I'll give you a call soon and see if we cant get together before summer is over.
