Welcome to the glass department and thanks for showing us this piece. Never seen this one. I'm guessing it's a Dutch beer. Do you know where it was found?

Here's a clue to help you with your research:

Defreestville was originally called Blooming Grove until around 1830 when it was changed due to confusion with another Blooming Grove in Orange County, New York,[SUP][5][/SUP] it was named Defreestville for David M. De Freest and family who owned a tavern there.[SUP][4][/SUP] Defreestville and Wynantskill continue to be important hamlets in the town. (from Wikipedia)

It's from Troy NY, at one time he was partnered with a man named Blanchard. It could have been this D.W. DeFreest or a relative...

Corporal Daniel W. DeFreest Enlisted on August 12, 1862 at Troy, NY as a Private. He was 23 years old at enlistment. On August 27, 1862 he mustered into "H" Co. NY 125th. Infantry. On September 3, 1863 he transferred into Veterans Reserve Corps. He was listed as POW 9/15/1862 Harper’s Ferry, Va. Paroled 9/16/1862. Son of Ezra DeFreest and Agnes Peck. He married Gertrude Van Vranken. b 1838 d 11/27/1913.

Good work, epackage. I think you've probably identified the correct De Freest. It was (is) a prominent family in the community for a long time.

Troy, NY, is a few miles north of Defreestville on the North Greenbush Road (US-4).

So which is it GHUNTER, did you "pull this out of your dug bottles and clean it up" or did you "find it on Ebay while searching for a bottle for your collection"?
