So, I'm at 10' and I dug a test hole in the middle of the pit about 2 ft deep. I sank my probe up to the handle again and felt absolutely nothing. Dead space! It's getting way too much work for 1 man. I have to climb that ladder and pull every one of those buckets up and it has zapped all of the energy out of me. I moved over about 8' from the existing pit and probed what feels like another one. Hit brick at 4 ft!!!!! I have found another pit that is circular in shape. The first photo is me standing in the new pit looking over at the old one. The last couple of pictures are the older square pit. (Maybe a well filled in???) don't know. There is a brick well about 30' away from the square pit. Gonna dig around in the newer one for now and see what happens. Found a shard of dark glass mixed in with the brick. Anyone, feel free to offer your opinion. Found this broken lid at about 5 ft in the 2nd pit. Also seeing some very dark glass shards and a jug handle. I'm thinking I will concentrate on pit #2 for now. Also found this ABM pocket flask in the top outer edge of pit #1 ImageUploadedByTreasureNet.com1421612127.111755.jpg ImageUploadedByTreasureNet.com1421612140.050591.jpg ImageUploadedByTreasureNet.com1421612150.538880.jpg

This is what my potlid would look like if whole. I think pit #2 has potential to hold some early glass ImageUploadedByTreasureNet.com1421628372.756197.jpg

After a little research I found this pot lid dates to between 1849-52. After that, the business moved to a different address. This broken lid was found in the top of the use layer of the privy I'll be going back to this weekend. I know it's pure speculation but if this pot lid is any indication of the age of the pit it could be a lot of fun digging.
