I picked up a couple of bottles recently to add to my collection along with some other stuff. Tall open pontil gin, red amber flask and Rem-Oil gun cleaner bottle. Here are a few pics.

Those are really nice undertaker. That flask has great color. I too am partial to the case guns and the lighter color of yours is pleasing to the eye. Great pick-ups.

I really like the Gin. Looks to be quite old, 1700s?

Undertaker, can we get a clear shot of the top and base of the gin, if it's not too much trouble

Here's a couple more picks. I would like to know how to tell the difference between a 1700s gin bottle and a 1800s bottle.

Wow, it's a better piece than I was expecting. Very nice indeed. I think it's every bit as old as you've been told. I'm no expert on case gins by any means but yours is a nice one.

Continental case bottles from the late 1700s have high, square shoulders and a stubby, funnel-shape lip. Low Country bottles typically have a smoky, olive amber glass color cause by the coal-fired reduction furnaces.

Van den Bossche's book, ANTIQUE GLASS BOTTLES, is full of useful photographs and measurements. See if you can find a used copy at Amazon. I have an extra copy still in the publisher's cellophane wrapper.
