After work today I decided to go take a look around the woods near my house. I noticed some depressions that looked like they may have been an old road and stared clearing an area of leaves with my foot and that's when I saw this. Any idea what the age of it is? I know it's a medicine bottle of some kind but that's about it.

I have found several of those at or around old homes that dated turn of the century or just after. Finding that could be a good indication that there are better bottles in the area. Hutchinsons, straight sided sodas or embossed drug store bottles. Good luck.

So it would be between 1900 and 1910?

1900-1910 for sure, called a 'paneled ball neck' in the 1906 Illinois Glass Co. catalog

Thanks for all the info. This is still my oldest bottle yet. I'm still wondering why it was out there. My house was built in the 40's and there are no older homes around. I found the dump full of 1940's and 50's bottles. I did notice what looks ti be an old road and a pile of bricks and what looks to be moss covered railroad ties or large logs from a structure.

If it's machine made it would make more scents . It looks like there may be a valve mark on the base . of your bottle .these type of meds were made from the late teens thru the 1920s.

and remember too....bottles of medicines can hang out in a cabinet for YEARS...way beyond the expiration date. We had tons of old timey stuff in the house as a kid, inks, meds, cleaners etc.

I think I'll use my day off tomorrow and look some more. I found an old dirt road a mile from where I live and noticed on a topo map from 1956 that there were 5 houses on it. The houses are no longer there. Would it be a good idea to take a walk down the road and look for bottles and what should I look for?
