Armed with my pickaxe, my brother, and my shovel, we got through the icy dump. Here's the pics!Unfortunately the dj whelan Hutchinson has a small crack on the lip and the green gargling oil also has a small hairline crack. My brother dug that one and he saw the crack and was gonna throw it into the woods and I said, "No!! I will take that if your gonna chuck it!" So now I have a cracked Gargling oil which really smelled crazy when I cleaned it! The dig was good all in all and next week on my day off we will go hit that same spot again with less hours pick axing. Also saw 8 deer on the way out!

Well, sorry to hear the one hutch is damaged but it still is a good find. The color of the gargling is great and it will still display. The bromos are also good finds because a lot of people are collecting cobalt blue. I think you guys did ok and looking forward to see what else you find

You guys have a decent turn of last century dump. The stuff you are finding is real good; not rare or super valuable but very cool. In my days as a digger Ive dug many of these dumps and sooner or later you're going to find a few real good bottles . And having been impatient I , like you dug them in frozen ground and take my advice unless the dump will be gone come spring don't keep digging because sooner or later your going to destroy a great bottle as you hack away and/or you"ll dig a nice one and have it crack do to the temperature change.

I'm starting to really love the old bottles. It's amazing how the hobby of metal detecting broadens your appreciation for many forms of hunting and collecting. I know nothing about bottle hunting/digging but believe rather then bust a good bottle with a pick axe I would wait for the ground to thaw out first. I love the cobalt blue bottles.

Thanks I had a great time. While I do agree with all of you about not busting a great bottle with the pickaxe my boredom with winter gets the best of me...also it's nice not worrying about ticks and Mosquitos. The large bromo I extracted from the frozen wall with a hammer and screwdriver. Took a long time!
