25 boxes full of 100 year old bottles.

Haven't had much to post lately or been out digging for that matter but figured I would share the closest thing I have gotten to a good dig in sometime. So I got the opportunity to buy 25 boxes of bottles a retired heavy equipment operator picked up during his years. Unfortunately they have been picked over by other collectors over the years once or twice but I figured what the heck price is crazy cheap enough. Also guy only let me go through 2 boxes take them or leave them, so it was a mistery as to what might have been over looked. Figured this would be next closest thing to digging them myself. Lots of embossed milks and crown tops and common stuff. Did manage to find some keepers. Few hutches, blobs and nice Lomax soda someone missed. I apoligise for flipped upside down pics.

Yes the single cobalt soda I found is the J.A. Lomax, has a nice chip but still keeper. No writing on small jug in first pic but did get three he dug that do. Hope pics aren't flipped again. Shot of Whiskey anyone? This one has me wondering, what is it some type of wine bottle? Very thin glass and appears to be hand blown.

Yes I agree bulk are turn of century - 1915ish with some 80s and 90s. From what he was saying sounded like he originally had a lot more of the desirable ones. Cobalt sodas, hutches, blobs and meds were scoped up some years back. Lots of the "heavier fancy blue and green bottles I just gave away to people years ago that were intrested" quote. I can only assume he was talking cobalt sodas. .... Few years to late, would of been cool to see pre picked.

Well I know we don't normally talk value here on Tnet but it was 50 for the boxes and 20 for three jugs, his numbers. At least in my area heavy equipment workers, companies are the only ones who come across large quantities of old glass. Good people to know if your a collector!

I love digging bottles but never have time to clean and display. Bit I hit a trash pit I am going to dig it. I cant help myself. I have a basement full of bottles.
You did well it is easily worth that with just a few that I see.

I thinks it's a bit large for a fire grenade, at least from the ones I have seen. I should of put something in pic to give comparison of size. It about as tall as average wine and about six inches in diameter and very thin glass with no seam. Tn had a good thought. As thin as it is I can't see it being practical for holding any type of liquid with out a holder or something. Glass is just too thin. Even more amazing is the fact it survived the track hoe that dug it up. Towmorrow if I find some time I will rinse off dirt and get a better look.

The teardrop shape bottle is a classic chianti bottle, originally wrapped in raffia.

Great scores, it looks like it's time to do some preparation for flea markets! Neat but common/cheap old bottles seem to sell great to general antique (but not specifically bottle) collectors. You could probably make hundreds off the common stuff you don't want and that won't be worth popping on eBay.

I am happy with the 20 or 30 keepers. Yeah cleaned up about 60 embosed milks and counted roughly another 60 embossed crown tops. Yeah some have chips but got to be worth a buck each. Anyway I hear your point.. Lots of 1-2 dollar bottles. Now I need to become a charter member so I can try and unload the 300 plus commons on here. Started organizing and rough cleaning this afternoon. Milks and some embosed crowns pluss a few bromos. "slick" crowns eanhh. Box of chem's and others I organized today.

I have seen some pretty cool mosaic made from bottles or like how others have built buildings in Southwest using bottles and mortar. Neat stuff, few months back I had see a fellow here in Chicago on Cra-gslist giving away 3,000 soda bottles from 1970s and 80's all clean never dug. But what does one do with 3,000 modern bottles?

I used to work for a guy that paved his driveway with broken glass. He bought it from some company that separates it into colors and sells it in bulk. It looked pretty cool I guess. Ive seen jar lids stuck into concrete before too that looks kinda cool.
