There are only a few things I like more than digging a good outhouse pit:) I found this, its quite rare as it is and hard to find any other examples. In my mind Goldfield sounds extremely simular to Coldfield. Was the bottle maker a little hard of hearing and put in a C instead of a G. I personally think it is an error bottle but would love to hear from others. Wouldn't all the G's show some slight C markings. I am no expert but would love to have discovered an error bottle! It's 7" and reads City Drug Store Coldfield, Colo. It should read Goldfield. What I notice is the slant in the bottom of the G which is not in the C's. Thanks for looking.

Nice find, many people were illiterate back at this time, even mold cutters. So they just carved what was on the invoice, which could have been misspelled...

Nice bottle and a terrific conversation piece with the mispelling.

I've got a drug store bottle that was found in Albany Georgia and it is marked "Albany Alabama" Only one I've ever seen and no such place existed that I can find. I also have straight sided Chero-Cola slug plate from Dawson Georgia where all the "S" are backwards.(Somewhat a common bottle around here) So, errors did occur. Epackage is right about not everyone being able to read well and I think that the demand for embossed bottles was such that the glass company just pumped them out as fast as possible. Can't say I blame them and I sure like to see the errors. JMO.

Misspellings did occur. I have a Warner's Tippecanoe with "Rocheter" on its base , should have been "Rochester". Yours is definitly a misspelling. Cool local bottle.

Error bottles sure are interesting. I wanted to make sure nobody thought it was pulled out of the mold early. Lots of times the G's turn into C's. I do not think this is the case. Thanks for posting the picture of the bottle PPCharlie, and especially for leaving a few treasures behind up here. Thanks for the posts:)

Error bottles can be tricky , for example , the 1903 standard CC crown cap has two backward "S's" error or on purpose ? either way there is a lot of them ,oddity yes, not very rare . the 1895 loop seal from the same company has an error , in " COLO " there is a variant (error) where it is spelled "COLD " which consistently sell for double what the "COLO" variant does, yet the COLO variant is much more rare. Either way you have a tough bottle in a tough size ! keep your eye out for the other error of this bottle it says G.L. Gallinger its a real good one !! ,,,,,, As far as leaving some treasures behind ,,,,, it sure wasn't from a lack of effort ! 8-) P.S , I have seen them in your size and a 16oz

Thanks, it didn't take long to fall in love with the districts bottles and become obsessive collecting them. I'm missing the GL Gallinger. Is it the GL that you have seen in the bigger sizes or the Coldfield? I sure am curious. The bottle club seemed unaware of the Coldfield. Hope to see you digging this Summer!

I've seen the "E.L" in the size you have and a 16oz , sorry can not say if they were Gold or Cold . The 16oz was in a collection in Kansas , have not spoken to him in quite a few years , but I will try to contact him and see if the 16 is Gold or Cold.
