Howdy,

Are there any types of 'guidebooks' for helping to identify bottles/crockery/glassware/etc. - In particular, those from the 1800's in the United States?

Any tips/recommendations would be appreciated...

Are you looking for information to help you understand how the pcs were made, mouth-blown or machine made and how the tops were formed? Or, are you looking for information that identifies the example you have and who made it/ when it was made/ and what it was used for?

Examples, manufacturers, usages, types, etc.... Of the 1800's.

I'd like to have it around for helping with bottles and crockery i come across at Civil/Indian War sites.

Ketchup, Pickles, and Sauces by Betty Zumwalt.
The Illustrated Guide to Collecting Bottles by Cecil Munsey.

I usually recommend avoiding bottle price guides, but Matt Knapp's AMERICAN ANTIQUE MEDICINE BOTTLES is the exception.

Agree with Harry, the Cecil Munsey book is one every collector should read

It's difficult to pinpoint just one book that has all the information you are looking for. Many antique bottle collectors specialize in their collections and they place their emphasis on particular types of bottles/stoneware. Examples are bitter' s bottles, inks, beers, medicines, Demi-johns, etc.
