And then this strange insulator thing. It's still got some old hard rubber/plastic inside the threads. Anyone know what this thing is?

That thing is awesome I think they're either a lightning rod topper. Or you attach to the steering wheel to an old. Car here's one I found in an abandoned house. When I lived in downeast Maine.

I hope that's the case! It crossed my mind that maybe it was from a car, from a stick shift or something. That would be so cool.
