1992. Yes lots of stuff. As for the bottle found in this thread...could the white build up on the bottle be salt? I remember hearing something about all the drinking water on the island being contaminated by ocean water.

No I don't think its salt. Then again I haven't actually held this piece. So I guess anything is possible. But probably more than likely calcium.

Pretty sure gollum is correct. It contained SAKI, Japanese rice wine and the candleholder was to heat it up, as Saki is best when served warm. Quite a find...

With all due respect... He could be right...but if your hiding in a cave I think a warm SAKI is a bit of a luxury. A makeshift lantern on the other hand would be quite a valuable commodity.

Sake may have been a bit of a luxury, but it was stocked in every Japanese Unit. Sake, as well as Tea are parts of Japanese Formal Ceremonies. Not just refreshing beverages. Just Google "Japanese Tea Ceremony".

You could be right. The fact that Ammoman has explored Japanese caves and found bottles like that with wicks in them is pretty strong evidence to his theory. BUT that is all we can do is theorize what it's use may have been. It's fun to guess though.

Very true...sake and beer was always around. And if they knew a battle was on the horizon, extra booze was shipped in. Nothing like fighting a drunk suicidal soldier.
