Just picked up these two jugs from Paterson, Louis Brawer owned a saloon at 26 Market St. in 1898-99 before opening a liquor store at 421 Main St. from 1900-05. A.L. Schwarz was located at 99 Main St. and had the largest liquor store in NJ at the turn of the century. The large jug is 4 gallons and the other is a 1/2 gallon...
Just need to clean up the candle wax from the Brawer, the Schwarz jug is my 9th or 10th variant of his I believe...

Them are some nice jugs. I tend to favor the little guy with the nicely done cursive.

Great jugs. Where do you have the best hunting for jugs? Have dug a few but nothing like the ones you have

The internet, auctions, word of mouth and I also tag 99% of my photos with "Paterson NJ bottles wanted [email protected]" which nets me 25-50 emails a year regarding bottles and stoneware. I also advertise on Craigslist and so many people know about my collection locally that whenever someone sees a jug they think of me right away, I get a lot of contacts that way.
