    where to look for bottles in a 1800's stone fondation hole in the country

    does any one have any idears on where to look for bottles in a stone fondation hole? no house just a hole in the woods. Where would the privy hole be? And ther is a old fondation of a barn to.

    Try to find the well.or lielocks . Out house is usually opposite corner from well or close to Lielocks.

    I am thinking ...and dont quote me on this...but...if you are searching in a hole...the obvious place to look would be the bottom.

    Old privvys were generally located on a sloping hill if built in the woods ...not dug. Wood ashes were dumped on the refuse to keep bacteria,smell and flies away.
    Most lilac trees were planted near an outhouse to not only screen it but mask the odor also.

    I have also hear from experienced bottle diggers that you should try digging inside the corners of the foundation. For some reason the seem to be places where people find relics. Buddy of mine found a nice two peice civil war era button just diggin in the corner of a foundation. No detector. Just digging and watching for bottles.
